Virginia Green Staycation - What is it?

Buzz word 'Staycation' is being tossed around a lot lately. When I first heard it, it really didn't make any sense. But now that I understand it's meaning I really like it and think it is a super idea!

A staycation is a vacation taken close to home, in your own state even better. I have added our own twist to it by calling it a Green Staycation. Why green? Well what is better than saving your greenbacks? Why spend a ton in fuel, flying? - air travel with all it's hangups just isn't fun anymore...explore your own backyard (or preferably ours!)

To add to the green theme, we have decided to entice you with the rolling green foothills of the Blue Ridge here in Franklin County. Get out of the city, out of the traffic, the crime, the chaos and into the country! Travel our roads here in Franklin County and take in the scenery, the fresh country breezes and break free of Nature Deficit Disorder, as I like to call it.

What is Nature Deficit Disorder?

Definition: the desire to sit inside and be entertained by electronic devices instead of getting into the great outdoors.

If you think you might have this disorder, this is the place to start kickin the habit - hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, golfing, birding, hunting, paddling. The Blue Ridge Parkway is right at your fingertips from The Claiborne House B&B. See the Sweet Mountain Laurel Loop on The Blue Ridge. Smart View Recreation Area from the B&B go route 40-West and head out past Ferrum College to reach The Blue Ridge Parkway. Peaks of Otter is another wonderful place for a leisure hike with beautiful views!
